Little Traverse-Outside fun!

May 18, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

The infants have joined the excitement in our spring garden!  They explored the dirt in the garden and grassy areas that surround the area.  The dandelions were colorful, soft, and apparently tasty.  EJ and Julia played with them until they wilted.  Dean decided that the dirt in the garden was not ready so he tilled it with his own hands.  And, Enzo decided to relax in the beautiful weather.  Now, all we have to do is watch the vegetables grow.

Learning opportunities they experienced: Showing initiative, building relationships with adults and peers, moving parts of the body and exploring objects.

The older toddlers added a little color to the preschool playground.  They used brushes to paint the rocks in the drain area.  The children talked about the colors that they used, pictures that they were painting, and about the activity of painting.

The learning opportunities they had included: Showing initiative, problem solving, speaking, exploring objects and identifying visual images.

Chessie Room- Cleaning up!

The younger toddlers had an opportunity, not to just look through the door that separates our infant toddler classrooms, but to visit too!  They came over to the Betsey room to investigate the activities in the classroom.  Several of the children enjoyed using the brushes and dustpans to sweep pom-poms off the floor.  We appreciated their help!

Some of the learning opportunities that they had were: Problem-solving, moving with objects,  exploring objects and seeing things from a different viewpoint.

The infant and toddlers worked together to make a sign for Donya’s (our cook) baby.  They used ink pads and stamps to create a colorful sign (and themselves).

They had the opportunity to experience these Key Developmental Indicators while stamping:  Exploring objects, Exploring art material, Group participation, Playing with others and Moving parts of the body.

Betsey room-Taking advantage of warm spring weather!

April 24, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

The older toddlers have been taking advantage of these beautiful spring days!  They went for a walk to the park across the street this past week.  They ate snack in the pavilion area, and then ventured to the play area.  There was a lot of climbing  the rock wall and rope climber.  The sand box was a big hit as well.  The children had the opportunity to play with children from our neighboring condominiums.  To finish off the adventure, the children walked around the pond.  The swans and ducks provided entertainment for the group as they swam around and eventually flew off.

While on this outing the children learned all sorts of things!  They experienced: Problem solving, Self help, Relationships with peers and adults, Playing with others, Group participation, Moving whole and parts of the body, Two way communication, Exploring objects, Speed, Seeing from a different viewpoint, and filling/emptying.  Wow!  A trip to the park packs in a lot of learning!

Little Traverse-Hammer Art!

April 9, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

The infants used hammers to create some artistic masterpieces.  This activity combined a few different curriculum areas: physical development and creative representation. While using the hammers, the infants were strengthening their large muscles and developing their fine motor skills.  The infants also had the opportunity to use their sense of touch to explore the paint and smear it on the paper. The children were very focused while they explored and created with the materials. We hope you enjoy the photographs!

Chessie room- Building a dinosaur house!

April 7, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

The Chessie room children created a new home for their dinosaurs.  They began by using paper mache to cover a box.  The children explored the mache mixture using several of their senses.  Once the box was covered, they painted it.  Finally, their house was ready for dinosaurs (and children)!  It’s been a wonderful addition to the room, and the children had the opportunity to experience working on a project that lasted for several days.
